The Art of Doing It Yourself

DIY projects have been around for ages. But did you know that most couples opt for DIY items for their wedding? DIY items can help to relieve costs in your wedding budget as you are hand making the items yourself rather than buying pre-made items. DIY can also be a way to put your own personal touch on your wedding. Check out some of the most common DIY projects we have seen our couples do for their special day.

1. Favors

Wedding favors can be a way of thanking your guests for attending your wedding and celebrating your love. These don’t have to be something insanely extravagant as most guests just appreciate the thought. Some couples opt for making a “goodie bag” which could contain candy, mints, personalized cookies, or even baked goods.

2. Welcome Sign

This is one of the first things your guests see upon arrival to your venue. This could be a great way to put a personalized touch on your wedding with something handcrafted right at the entrance.

3. Seating Chart

This is an item that helps your guests know where to sit for dinner and the reception. A seating chart is a great way to include your creativity in your wedding. We’ve seen couples use mirrors from their own homes and then attach the table assignments using wax seals. Or you can get even more creative like the seating chart below to incorporate your wedding decor and florals.

4. Name Cards

Name cards can be a beautiful way to personalize your wedding as when they are DIY’d they are typically handwritten. You could also choose to print each name in a specific font and display them on special paper as a handcrafted project.

5. Table Centerpieces

Some couples choose to use decor they already own so they don’t have to spend additional money on centerpieces. Other couples have created their own centerpieces at a lesser cost than buying something brand new or even renting items. In the picture below, the couple created their own floating candle centerpieces.

6. Decor

Additional DIY projects could come in the form of decor for your wedding. Whether it be something handcrafted specifically for your wedding or something you create from items you already have, having your DIY projects on display at your wedding is a great way to put your own touch on your special day.
